Grief is a creative process. I began to heal as I channeled my emotions into creative expression. It's no coincidence that our creativity center and our emotions share the same area of the body: our hips! By increasing hip mobility, we process and release emotions that have become rigid and stuck there.
Creativity is the fire that will fuel you to the other side of whatever you ain you are carrying.
What is cathartic release?
Cathartic release is a big, pleasurable, expressive release of stuck, repressed, unprocessed emotions from deep within your body and system. It’s a healthy and safe way to unblock energy that may be manifesting as physical pain, inhibiting emotions/behaviors, imbalances or other dis-ease. It typically happens when your body feels safe, relaxed, and open enough to allow the hidden emotions to reveal and untangle themselves, liberating you from painful stories that have been stored for years.
What is grief?
Grief can be from a loss of a person we loved; in death or partnership, a job transition, moving your home, unprocessed trauma from childhood, health issues, an identity shift… the list goes on! We are grieving when we feel sad about something changing.
Grief is not something to heal, it is something to repurpose with Somatic Movement + Cathartic Release.
Grief is a very powerful energy that just needs the right channel of expression.
Do you have to be grieving?
I believe we are all grieving something even if we aren’t acutely aware of it, but no, you don’t have to be grieving something big. You could be experiencing heaviness and sadness from the state of the world. These monthly sessions are about learning how to understand the emotions and sensations in your body that are blocking you from feeling good, and moving them through while being held by a consistent community.
What does hip mobility have to do with moving emotion?
Most people have tight hips and never do anything about it which ends up leading to injuries and surgeries as we age.
Flexibility is one thing, but MOBILITY - the actual ability to rotate the joint in the socket, is even more important because flexibility is typically a linear, stationary posture while mobility is flexibility in motion, activating many more nerve endings and other systems of the body that regulate our nervous system.
Fascia are the tissues under our skin, in between our muscles. Studies have shown that we store memories, emotions right in there. So by bringing movement to the areas of tension, we are asking the fascia to open and release what it’s holding, which is why we feel an emotional/cathartic release moving parts of our body that are tightly holding onto stored, painful memories. It thinks it’s protecting us by storing and tightening, but we get to show our bodies that we are safe to open and release, creating a new narrative for our system.
The hips are a particularly potent part of the body which is why I focus on them in my healing method.
